Cozmo and the Cozmo app are designed to work with popular modern devices.

Cozmo's app is Cozmo 2. It is listed as "Cozmo Robot" in the Apple App Store and as "Cozmo 2.0" in the Google Play store. Use the store badges at the top of this page to get it.

Please Note: If your device cannot find and download the Cozmo app in the Apple App Store or Google Play store, then your device will not work with Cozmo. Please read here for more information.

When selecting a mobile device to use with ANKI products, please consider the following important guidelines:

ANKI tests and publishes a list of devices with operating systems that we know to work well with ANKI products. These lists are actively updated as we improve our products. Due to differences among devices, some devices that meet or exceed the minimum requirements may not work well with Cozmo.

This list of validated devices may change at any time and without any notice. We will do what we can to keep this list as up to date as possible.

* These manufacturers have devices with the same or similar names to the devices we test and publish here, but they are not compatible with ANKI products.

We also have specifically disabled some devices because they have known issues with the Cozmo app or are not standard. For example, the Cozmo app does not support any Tablet or Device that uses an x86, x86-64, intel, AMD, or Atom based Processor. Several Huawei and Xiaomi devices do not work well with the Cozmo app. Please read here for more information.

What is the general rule for device compatibility?

The vast majority of devices that can download our App from their respective app store are likely to support all aspects of Cozmo.

If you can use your device to search for, find, and download the App in the Apple App Store or the Google Play store, that device is very likely to be compatible with Cozmo.

Please be aware that because of the significant number of different models, variants, and manufacturing standards of available devices, ANKI can only assure the compatibility of devices that we actively test internally.

What if my device cannot find and download the App?

You’ve used your device to search for, but cannot find and download the App from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store locations.

This means that your device is known to not support Cozmo. Either it does not meet a specific requirement, or we’ve have specifically disabled it because there were problems that we could not fix or workaround.

What devices does ANKI know do not work?

Note: By its nature, this list is incomplete and subject to change at any time and without notice.

All of the following devices are known to ANKI to have failed compatibility testing with the Cozmo app. They are fundamentally incompatible with our products. ANKI strongly recommends that you do not attempt to use these products with ours.

Huawei Lite Devices

Some Huawei "Lite" devices have performance and disconnection issues running the Cozmo app. Based upon our tests, we have determined that some of these devices are not compatible with the Cozmo app and have had to manually excluded them from installing the app via the Google Play Store.

Sony Xperia Devices

Some Sony Xperia devices crash upon running the Cozmo app. Based upon our tests, we have determined that these devices are not compatible with the Cozmo app and have had to manually excluded some of them from installing the app via the Google Play Store.

ANKI apps are not supported running on devices that are:

Jailbroken, rooted, or running custom ROMs
Running a Beta operating system
Installed on external memory (SD Cards, USB, etc.)

ANKI apps are only supported on devices running officially released builds provided by their manufacturer and installed on internal memory.

Other devices that should be compatible

If your device is not on the list of compatible devices but it is running at least iOS 12.0 or Android 7.0, it will likely work as expected with Cozmo.

Why do I need a device?

A compatible device (iOS or Android) is required whenever you want to play with Cozmo.

The Cozmo app is used to play games, teach Cozmo new behaviors, and help him meet new people, not just for controlling him.

Once Cozmo is connected to his app through your device's WiFi connection, you can set aside your device and let Cozmo roam around on his own. It’s fun to just hang out with him. When you close or background the Cozmo app, Cozmo will go to sleep, and eventually disconnect from your device.

Cozmo must have his app running on your device.
