Compatible Devices

Is my device compatible with Vector and the Vector Robot companion app?

Vector and the Vector Robot companion app are designed to work with popular modern devices.

Please Note: If your device cannot find and download the Vector Robot companion app in the Apple App Store or Google Play store, then your device will not work with Vector. Please read here for more information.

When selecting a mobile device to use with ANKI products, please consider the following important guidelines:

  • Minimum requirements
  • Validated devices
  • Operating systems

ANKI tests and publishes a list of devices with operating systems that we know to work well with ANKI products. These lists are actively updated as we improve our products. Due to differences among devices, some devices that meet or exceed the minimum requirements may not work well with Vector.

Minimum Requirements

Operating System

  • iOS 15.6 or later (iPadOS 15.6 or later on iPad)
  • Android 7.0 or later

These are the versions shown on the app's App Store and Google Play pages. Check those pages for the current requirements.

Hardware

  • A WiFi internet router that broadcasts in at least 802.11n 2.4GHz channels

This list of validated devices may change at any time and without any notice. We will do what we can to keep this list as up to date as possible.

* This manufacturer has devices with the same or similar names to the devices we test and publish here, but they are not compatible with ANKI products. For example, a device with a similar name to one listed here, such as a "Neo" or "Mini" version, is not tested and may not work.

We also have specifically disabled some devices because they have known issues with the Vector Robot companion app or are not standard. For example, the Vector Robot companion app does not support any Tablet or Device that uses an x86, x86-64, intel, AMD, or Atom based Processor. Please read here for more information.

If Vector is autonomous, why do I need to use a device with Vector? Why do I need the Vector Robot companion app?

While Vector is an autonomous robot (you can interact with him using your voice and he will automatically update himself when a software update is available), the Vector Robot companion app is required to:

  • Successfully set up Vector
  • Associating your Vector with your Stratus account. Create it at https://stratus.anki.bot before you turn Vector on for the first time, or activation can take up to 24 hours.
  • Configuring Vector to join WiFi networks and setting basic settings
  • Help you learn how to interact with Vector
  • Manage Face Recognition and Photos

If you do not have a compatible device, you may be able to set Vector up in a web browser instead. See Vector Web Setup Instructions.

"Hey Vector" voice commands and AI need a paid Vector membership. Without one, Alexa voice commands and autonomous behavior still work. See Vector memberships.

More about device compatibility

What is the general rule for device compatibility?

The vast majority devices that can download the Vector app (Vector Robot app) from their respective app stores are likely to support all aspects of the app.

If you can use your device to search for, find, and download the Vector app in the Apple App Store or the Google Play store that device is very likely compatible with Vector app.

Please be aware that because of the significant number of different models, variants, and manufacturing standards of available devices, ANKI can only assure the compatibility of devices that we actively test internally.

What if my device cannot find and download the Vector app?

If you have used your device to search for, but cannot find and download the Vector app (Vector Robot app) from the Apple App Store or the Google Play store, this means that your device is known to not support the Vector app.

Either it does not meet a specific requirement, or we’ve have specifically disabled it because there were problems that we could not fix or workaround.

What devices does ANKI know do not work?

Note: By its nature, this list is incomplete and subject to change at any time and without notice.

All of the following devices are known to ANKI to have failed compatibility testing with the Vector app.  They are fundamentally incompatible with our products. ANKI strongly recommends that you do not attempt to use these products with ours.

Any Tablet or Device with any x86, x86-64, Intel, AMD, or Atom based Processor

ANKI apps are not supported running on devices that are:

  • Jailbroken, rooted, or running custom ROMs
  • Running a Beta operating system
  • Installed on external memory (SD Cards, USB, etc.)

ANKI apps are only supported on devices running their manufacturer's officially released builds and installed on their built-in internal memory.

Other devices that should be compatible

While ANKI does not actively test every device, if you own one that is running at least iOS 15.6, iPadOS 15.6 or Android 7.0, it will likely work as expected with the Vector app.
